Christina Ricci came onto the scene as the gothy (but adorable) Wednesday Addams, from the Addam's Family movies of the early 90s.

Hee Haw!

Anyone who grew up anywhere in America in the 70s and 80s remembers Hee-Haw. It aired on CBS-TV from 1969–1971 before a 20-year run in local syndication. Every week brought new musical guests, and lots of laughs from old-timey farmers in overalls and scantily clad farmer's daughters.

Although as country as the Grand Ole Opry, Hee Haw's appeal was not limited to a rural audience. It was successful in all of the major markets, including New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. Part of the appeal was the classic country music, and part the silly wacky humor that seemed during the post-Vietnam era, to make us all feel a little better about being Americans. In the news was hostage crisis, gas rationing, inflation, the decline of American auto, and a major recession lasting through the 80s, but on Hee-haw, everything was cheerful and simple, and polyester and plaid. It was an America about as accurate as Archie comics.  And exactly what we wanted to hear.

Of course, the fun part was the subtle (or not so subtle) sexual innuendoes of the jokes. The farmer's daughters in short shorts and tight shirts knotted at the waist and hair in pigtails. Didn't we all wonder, during the 70s, what was really doing on back stage, between skits? 

Home Movie

Just a decade ago, to have even the most minimal movie studio--a place to record, edit, duplicate media was an investment beyond most people's means. Now, he's bought a nice three-chip digital JVC camcorder which records in 1080p. He's bought the wide-angle lens converter to be able to get more in the shot, especially at close up range. He's got the short shotgun mic to pick up the sound wherever the camera is pointed. He's got a Mac G5 tower that he's loaded with Final Cut Pro Studio, so he can edit, and a pair of good speakers. For under $10,000, he has a movie studio set up in his basement. He can shoot, edit, and burn DVDs. He has plans to go into the porn business.

Conjugal Visit

What a great tradition: the conjugal visit.

A conjugal visit is when an inmate is actually given a little privacy during a scheduled visit to "reacquaint" themselves with a spouse or long-term partner. The theory is that permitting such a visit preserves family bonds and increases the chances of success for a prisoner's eventual return to life outside prison. Perhaps more immediately clear: the incentive of conjugal visits means that inmates are strongly motivated to comply with the various day-to-day rules and regulations of the prison. As a result, inmates consciously avoid any infringement which might disqualify them from having a conjugal visit. And no prisoner wants to miss out on a chance to get a little lovin' from the outside.

Conjugal visits may be inside the prison, or in a specially designated trailer. Sheets, pillows and towels may be supplied, as well as tissues, lube, and condoms, for you-know-what.

As a matter of procedure, both visitor and inmate are searched before and after the visit, to ensure that the visitor has not attempted to smuggle any items in or out of the facility.

It is commonly known that in the courts of Europe, particularly Versailles and Whitehall in the 17th and 18th centuries, the wealthy and powerful men kept a mistress. Alexander VI is just one example of a Pope who kept mistresses. A king might hold numerous mistresses but have a single "favourite mistress" or "official mistress" (in French, "maîtresse en titre"), as with Louis XV and Madame de Pompadour. 

Less known is that the wealthy women of the 18th- and 19th-century Italy, had their own "open secret." The cicisbeo was the companion of a married woman who attended her at public entertainments, to church, and other occasions and had other "privileges." This arrangement, called the cicisbeatura or cicisbeismo, was widely practiced, with knowledge and consent of the husband, especially among the nobility of the cities of Genoa, Nice, Venice, Florence and Rome.
