Dogging

"Dogging," apparently, was invented by the British. In the simplest terms, Dogging is a British euphemism for engaging in sexual acts, or watching others do so, in a semi-public place (typically a secluded park, highway rest stop, or empty parking lot).


The sex can be anything from a couple putting on a show from inside their car, to sex on the grass or a nearby picnic table while others watch, to an open invitation for all to join in. Dogging involves exhibitionism and voyeurism and both the danger and thrill of anonymous group sex. The voyeurs are often middle-aged men looking for some action. The couple is often looking for the attention of such eager men. It is often driven by a husband wanting to see his wife engage in sex with multiple partners, and be seen as the center of attention. This term is sometimes called a "hot wife," and is a common fantasy men project onto their wife that she is a sex-craved nymphomaniac. In some cases, the woman just might be, and enjoys the attention and pleasure of the various random sex partners as much (or more) than her husband. It's not really clear, or documented, if any single women dog on their own.

The trend in England was first reported by the BBC in 2003. A survey taken by one researcher at Harper Adams University College found that dogging was so popular that 60% of county parks were affected by it.

No one can say exactly where the term came from. Dogging likely derives from the term 'walking the dog,' ie a dog walker is strolling in a park in the evening and stumbles across a couple in the bushes. Perhaps the dog owner lingered to watch a while. And perhaps the couple had come to the park to have sex with the distinct possibility of being caught in the act. Another suggestion is that dogging comes from the sexual behavior of dogs, that they may gather into packs, and when a female is in heat, the males may group around her and take turns.

Like any group activity, there seems to be some basic protocol. When a couple pulls up to a parking spot and switches on the interior light, it's a signal for others to come watch. If they open the window then this is a signal that they'd invite the guys to reach in for a touch, or that the wife might lean out and share some blow jobs. If they open the door, this is the signal that they want the guy(s) to join in. And if the woman gets out of the car and bends over the hood, or lays back on a nearby picnic table, then not much more needs to be said.
