Veronica Lake

Veronica Lake. Blue eyes, strawberry blonde, the epitome of the Hollywood femme fatale. She was a Hollywood starlet and classic pin-up. Iconic for her beauty, but infamous for her troubled personal life.

Veronica was kicked out of a Catholic school as a girl, her mother suffered schizophrenia, and she was reportedly hard to work with on set. One of her co-stars reportedly turned down a chance to work on a project, saying, "Life is too short for two films with Veronica Lake." After a series of failed marriages, she eventually died out of the spotlight, estranged from her children, and alcoholic.

Despite the dark troubles of her personal life, she remains one of the 20th Century's most striking beauties. Her "peek-a-boo" hair, falling over her right eye, has become the very symbol of the vamp, imitated over and over, such as the cartoon Jessica Rabbit in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit."

This lovely color photo, taken likely at the height of her career in the 1940s, shows her gorgeous face, her knock-out figure, and (probably to most people's surprise) a small tuff of strawberry blonde underarm hair. If anyone thinks beautiful women never have underarm hair, show them this.
